What is the correct way for our society to deal with the Plame Affair? How do we protect freedom of the press without letting White House officials break the law?
The protection of confidential sources is imperative to protecting us from corporations and gov't officials run amok. Beyond the normal political combat that goes on in our society, how do we create institutions and policy capable of protecting our citizenry?
Unfortunately, the current administration seems more than willing to sell out our freedoms and traditions for short-term political gain. Don't get me wrong, I know this is politics, but the current administration has crossed a line that is beyond the norm. Even Bush senior respected many of the tenents that are being violated by the current administration.
Voters are so disenchantment with politics that they believe that both parties are equally corrupt and are unmoved the current political environment. But, that does not mean that this fight doesn't matter. How do we make this relevant to Rs and Ds alike? We have real problems: a shrinking middle class, a huge federal debt, a huge budget deficit, a large trade deficit, increasing global competition and problems fighting the war in Iraq.
We have to find a way to re-engage voters on issues that affect their lives, not just economics and war, but also ideals.
